The UK Jarra Association Support during Covid-19
On 23rd March 2020, the UK Government issued guidelines and identified that workers should only leave their home when travelling to and from work “but only where this absolutely cannot be done from home”.
In effect, this directive was a lock down where only essential workers are permitted to travel to work because their work cannot be done from home and must have some form of identification. Or carryout shopping for food and return to the home.
Based on the above, the Welfare team identified a package of measures in solidarity to help our UK based members during these unprecedented times. The Chairman expressed his desire for “no Jarranka to be left out during this time”. He has asked members to contact the Welfare team led by Mustapha Sanneh in confidence about individuals who needs our support or if they know of someone who will be requiring support. Mr Sanneh can be reached on 07809537374 or any member of the Welfare team.
These measures of support were put in place.
£700 from the membership contributions has been set aside for members to access depending on circumstance. For information and access, please contact any of these officers in confidence: Buka Demba on 07990808312; Famara Saidykhan on 07846540977 and Kebbaring Dampha on 07988785159.
Through Sanneson Associates, Alagy Sanneh has pledged to offer free service those self-employed members to access government grants. Please contact Alagy on 07886446135 for further information.

“The UK Jarra Association Donates to Mansakonko Area Council“
The UKJA consulted local authorities in the Lower River Region on their plans to combat the rapid expansion of the virus in Jarra. We decided to partner with the Area Council mainly because they were ahead in the sensitisation process. In collaboration with stakeholders, they had already put in place hand washing units at various points in Jarra and beyond. The Area Council requested some support in the provision extra hand washing stations and public sensitisation, in addition to their efforts.
The charity donated GMD25,000 to the Council towards the provision of hand washing units to be distributed in various locations in Jarra. UKJA Gambia Chapter Committee Members handed over the units to the Council on Wednesday 25th March 2020 and assisted with the delivery process to the communities. Please see photos attached.
