Our vision

The Association is currently engaging in number of projects citing the current issues affecting Jarra Region in The Gambia. These projects are being carried out by its respective departments within the Association. So far we have made consideration progress and we are en route to implement science and technology infrastructure in selected schools in Jarra. We have met a number of milestones that is making a huge difference.

Initiated IT Summer Camp

SUMMER ICT TRAINING ORGANISED BY UKJA IN PARTNERSHIP WITH IMDID GAMBIA

UK Jarra Association in partnership with IMDID Gambia has organised a summer IT Camp for students in secondary schools in LRR ( Jarra and Kiang) which is currently going on at Soma Senior Secondary School.The objective of this ICT Summer Camp is to bridge the technology gap between students in the Urban and Rural Gambia. This training will equip these students with basic IT skills that could benefit them in their career progression.

During these 10 days intense training Camp,  students will explore various modules in ICT such as: 

  • Office Applications
  • Programming
  • Computer Hardware and Software
  • Website Design
  • Graphic Design

A Newly Refurbished Ward

The handing over of the newly refurbished and expanded labour ward of Soma Regional Hospital, February 2019 at Soma Regional Hospital.

This is a multimillion Dalasi project co-funded by UK Jarra Association and FAR Ltd. It entails the expansion and renovation of the labour ward and also transforming it into a modern standard labour ward.

The following equipment and items are provided by UK Jarra Association:

Autoclave – very important sterilizing device,Delivery beds, Privacy cubicles, Admission beds, Oxygen concentrator, Electronic Suction machine, Overhead lamps, Overhead light use in surgery mainly, Foetal stethoscopes, Dopplers, Delivery kits, Surgical instruments, Manual suction machine, Wall mounted blood pressure machines, Bedside cupboards, Drug storage refrigerator, Stretcher, Anglepoise lamp, Shadowless operating lamp

Giving back to our communities through such initiatives is one of the best ways that we can all contribute in our small ways to the welfare of our societies. We are happy to be associated with the initiative. We also thank the contractor for delivering on time” Lang Yabou

Scholarship Offered

The first badge of students to be awarded with the UKJA scholarship – Mary Barry, Abdourahman Braima and Binta Saidy (represented by her father) with the governor of Lower River Region, Madam Fatou Jammeh. The governor presented to them textbooks and other learning materials worth over D12,000.00. It is important to note that the UKJA scholarship scheme  is aimed at identifying three outstanding students every year from the Grade 9 exams who are majoring in the science subjects and sponsor them through their  secondary school and university education. These three students (2f, 1m) achieved aggregates 9,10 and 11 in the last grade nine exams. We congratulate all the three awardees and wish them academic success.

Learning Materials Donated

A 40ft container carrying learning materials was distributed between schools in Jarra. This was donated by UJKA as part the Educate Jarra Project. The initiation is to support education institutions in Jarra region by facilitating necessary learning resources. The donation is welcomed by various headmasters who benefited from it.

EDUCATE JARRA

Building A Computer Lab for Bureng

We have continued our journey in promoting Science & Technology in schools in Jarra. We are currently building a science and technology lab in Bureng senior secondary school.

The initiation is to extend the same template we have with soma senior secondary. The idea is to expose students to technology, this is with the view of spotting potentials in students exposed to these environments. 

What We are Working On

Our state the art science and technology lab. The lab is intended to be fitted with modern technologies as well as equipments. We are very delighted to streamline similar initiatives to rest of required schools in Jarra region. The lab will be used with very high technical programs with help students in building applications and systems since it is equipped with modern systems.
